Fr. Michael McGivney, who founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882, will take a step closer to sainthood on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 11 a.m. when he will be beatified at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, Conn.

Fr. McGivney saw the poverty and anti-Catholic bigotry that made life difficult for the American faithful in the 19th century. In response, Fr. McGivney created the fraternal charitable organization that would help the needy, bury the dead and keep men away from anti-Catholic secret societies.

Today there are about two million members of the Knights of Columbus around the world. Last year, they donated more than $185 million USD and 76 million volunteer hours, as knights lived out their principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.

Fr. Michael McGivney’s beatification Mass can be viewed online at the Knights of Columbus’s website and it will be broadcasted on EWTN and Salt and Light TV on Saturday, October 31 at 11 a.m.
