Parishioners at Sacred Heart Parish in Uxbridge, Ont., rejoiced as they celebrated God’s faithfulness and love with a dual milestone this year: the global Jubilee of Hope and the parish's own 160th anniversary.

On Oct. 25, 2025, His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo joined the parish as celebrant and homilist at a Mass of Thanksgiving – the final event of the 160th anniversary celebrations.

There were approximately 200 people in attendance at the Mass. A gala dinner followed, with 160 guests and Cardinal Leo serving as the keynote speaker.

Celebrations for the milestone anniversary began in February 2025 with an Opening Mass on Marriage Sunday celebrated by Most Rev. Bishop Nguyen. At this Mass, couples celebrating milestone wedding anniversaries were recognized. Other events included a Family Mass during Catholic Education Week in May with parish school St. Joseph’s; a parish BBQ in June with hamburgers, hot dogs and an ice cream truck; and a Mass in July for seniors and elderly with anointing of the sick.

Sacred Heart Parish was founded in 1865. The first Mass in the church was on February 3, 1865. The original parish church was located on the same site as the present church. As the town of Uxbridge grew, the old church was eventually deemed too small and the present church was built in 1963-64, with a solemn blessing taking place on July 26, 1964, by Archbishop Pocock. For many years, the church’s various pastors were priests of the Sacred Heart congregation. Then in 1999, the parish was entrusted to the care of the Archdiocese of Toronto.

We give thanks for all those who have supported and strengthened the Sacred Heart community over the last 160 years. May God continue to sustain and bless the parish family in abundance.
